Are you facing a problem during your studies or are you looking for personal advice inside your education institution? At your education institution several forms of support are being offered. As a student it is important to know who to go to for your questions during your studies.
When you start your studies, you and your fellow students will have appointed a tutor. This is a teacher of your studies who usually also teaches the first year. The tutor is the first contact person and can help your with making choices in your study program. The tutor tries to make your feel at home at your studies.
At several studies tutors are being assisted by student mentors. These are students from the second year or above. This way there is a low threshold to get study tips and get several questions answered about your studies, the university and Utrecht as student city.
Every study has a study advicer, who can, for example, inform you about education and exam rules, the binding study advice (BSA) and how to graduate. If you are facing personal problems or have special family circumstances who influence your studies, contact the study advice first. The contact details of the study adviser can be found on the pages of your study. The study advice can also refer your to another guidance councilor.

During your studies a class receives a study coach to whom you can go with all your questions. In principal this is the first contact person for you as a student. The study coach is in general about study related matters, such as the development of competences, study progress and results. The study coach can refer you to the student dean if necessary.
Student deans help students who are dealing with special circumstances. Think of things such as chronic diseases, a functional impairment or long taking disease, psychological circumstances, special family circumstances, financial problems by unexpected circumstances and in case you want to make an objection or appeal. With the support of the student dean the student can request facilities such as extra guidance or extra time during tests, request to limit study delay to a minimum.
Student deans do not procure information about students to a third party and are also not involved with the education or evaluation of students. This makes that students can speak freely with a student dean.
Do you want to make an appointment with a student dean? Send an email to the deanship of your institute. Quickly mention what you want to talk about and what days and times would suit you best to talk about it. This way you will be guaranteed to have an appointment soon.
